Plans and Upgrades

Kupe Cloud has four plans (Starter, Pro, Business, and Enterprise) that differ along the same four dimensions. This page compares them and covers what happens, and what gets billed, when you move between them.

Plans define four main things:

• the monthly platform fee
• the total resource pool available to the tenant
• the included observability allowance
• the maximum number of managed clusters

The compute unit rates stay the same across plans. What changes is the size of the pool and the amount included before overage applies.

Enterprise uses custom tenant-specific configuration rather than preset limits.

How plan changes work

In the console, open Billing and select Change Plan.

• upgrades take effect immediately
• downgrades are checked against your current cluster count and allocated resources
• if current usage exceeds the target plan, you need to scale down first
• Enterprise is handled as a custom plan and routes through contact with the Kupe team

What changes when you switch plans

• Upgrade: a larger pool and a larger observability allowance are available right away. No need to recreate clusters.
• Downgrade: the pool and allowance shrink to the new plan’s limits. Existing allocations are checked first, so the platform blocks a downgrade that would leave you over the target plan’s limits.

How a plan change is billed

Plan changes take effect immediately, but nothing is charged at the moment you switch. Like everything else in Kupe, plan fees are billed monthly in arrears: when the billing period closes, your invoice prorates the plan fee by the day, charging each plan for exactly the days it was active.

• Upgrades: your next invoice carries the old plan for the days before the change and the new plan for the days after. Switch from Pro to Business halfway through a period and you’re billed roughly half of each fee.
• Downgrades: the same proration works in your favour. The higher fee stops accruing the day you switch, and your next invoice reflects only the days spent on each plan.

The charge goes to the card on file with the rest of your monthly invoice; there’s no separate checkout. Observability allowances are prorated the same way, so each plan’s included allowance applies for the days it was active. Your usage charges are unaffected; they are always metered on actual consumption, separate from the plan fee.
